Have you ever wished that creating your story’s characters could be easy? Do you stare aimlessly at your screen while trying to decide what your main character should be like, a supporting character, that character’s parents, friends or even a teacher or boss?
Creating your characters doesn’t have to be so hard. In fact, with a little imagination, you can create the perfect, most-believably lovable character or hate-able villain in practically no time at all. Here’s a quick game that you can use to create your characters:
May I introduce you to the Character Creation Game! To play, all you have to do is visit the Imagine Magazine website and download the character creation sheet. If you’ve ever played Dungeons & Dragons, you’re going to find this game quite familiar! Here’s the drill:

1. Download the document and open it on your computer. It’s in both PDF, for printing, and .doc for everything else.

2. Start creating your characters!

Once you’ve downloaded and printed the PDF or opened the .doc file, you’re ready to begin! Simply fill out the basics, like name, age and other general features. To the right you’ll see a nice, big empty box, where you can put a picture of your character to help you remember what your character looks like. To do this, you can either draw your own character or find someone on the web that resembles your character.

After you’ve got the basics done, it’s time to start rolling! Below this article on the Imagine Magazine website you’ll see a box called “Roll the Dice” which will act as our virtual die. The fields are all ready to go, so all you have to do is press "Generate". For the "Attitudes" section, you're going to want to generate 10 numbers, and make sure to record each one.

The first five numbers will act as your characters positive attitude traits, and the last five numbers will become your characters negative character traits. Scroll down on the webpage to find the “Attitude” list, which goes all the way up to 73. There’s both a negative side and a positive side. Find the collaborating number for each of the numbers you recorded and write them into your character’s “Attitude” block. The attitude starting at one will be the strongest trait, whereas the fifth numbered trait on the list will be the weakest.

When you’ve finished the “Attitudes” block, simply move on to the next field. Repeat what you did with the Attitudes field with all of the other fields until you're done. Easy, right?

Beyond 'rolling' a die, there's also a list of “Personal Styles” to help you decide how your character dresses. Feel free to add to any of these lists. If you do come up with more, let us know and we’ll add your new field to the current list!

On the second page of the Character Creation sheet you’ll notice there’s a section called “Background Information”. This will help you list your characters family members and friends, as well as add extra likes and dislikes, family history, or you could just use it for some extra notes to keep track of things while you’re writing.

In a nutshell, that’s the Character Creation game! Quick, easy, painless and 100% unbiased character creation. Now, while you write your story, you’ll be better equipped to know how your characters will react to different events, as well as maintain consistency with descriptions and background information. You never know when it will come in handy!
