“Identity”

Despite its stellar cast and deeply intriguing concept, it really amazes me to hear that a lot of people still don’t know about this movie! I’m thinking that maybe it was ahead of its time, or perhaps it was marketed as a horror/thriller and it caused people in that era of films to just walking to a theaters and turn their brains off to see people get sliced and diced for no real reason…who knows? But the truth is, “Identity” is an incredible movie about a group of random people who find themselves trapped at a hotel while a serial killer lurks to pick them off, one by one! And it will twist your mind in a knot once you start thinking about it on a deeper level! I can’t rally tell you much more about it without giving anything away, but if you haven’t seen it…give it a peek. It’ll be worth it! And a good selection for those of you who have friends or family members who think they’ve seen it all. It’s not confusing or hard to understand at all. Just pay attention. And the big twists in this movie will take you on a breathless ride that you’re sure to appreciate once it’s all over!

“Triangle”

This is one of those movies where I have to be careful with what I can tell you guys and what I can’t, still have it make some kind of rational sense, and not spoil anything along the way. But, then again, that’s what all the selections are all about this month, so let me go ahead and give it a shot. 😛

Basically, you have a young woman who’s basically going through a rough time after an unmentioned tragedy, and her friends are taking her out on the water on a boat to help her stabilize and escape the trauma of it all for a little while. However, when traveling through a rather mysterious part of their trip, a rather turbulent seems to swoop down upon them out of nowhere and they all find themselves trapped out at sea with no way to call for help. Luckily, they come across a rather large cruiser out there, and find a way to dock and climb aboard…only to find the entire vessel empty. Or…so it would seem.

What happens from that point on is a thrilling ride including elements of action, some science fiction, some time travel elements, a touch of horror, and a whole lot of twists and turns that are sure to leave your head spinning in circles by the time it’s all over and done with. This movie is a serious mind trip if you ever get the chance to check it out! And it gets even better the second time around!

“10 x 10”

You know…I never really thought about how easy it would be to just simply go out some lace, find a target, and just totally abduct them in broad daylight from a busy parking lot! But…considering how often it actually happens in real life, I can’t say that it’s really all that far-fetched. And that’s exactly where this movie begins but it’s certainly not where it ends.

Now, where this may sound like a very simple premise (and in many ways, it is), there’s much more going on here than what you may think. And these puzzling elements begin to unfold more and more as the movie goes on. When the main guy grabs his hostage and locks her up in a soundproof 10 x 10 sized room, the story begins to unravel to the point where you begin to wonder exactly what’s going on here. It’s not what you think. And when your mind changes over in an attempt to adjust…nope! it’s not that either. So figure it out, folks! And have fun!

“Arlington Road”

First off…there’s no way that you can really go wrong with Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins in the same psychological thriller. Don’t even try. But I can’t ever stop feeling as though this movie is heavily underrated! It’s a brilliant lesson in tension and paranoia that keeps you pretty much glued to the screen from the opening credits to the end credits. And the weird thing is…watching it again recently, it’s actually pretty accurate and relevant to a lot of the things that are going on today as well. So it definitely holds up over time.

Jeff Bridges plays a widowed father of his ten year old son who trying to rebuild his life all over again from scratch in a quiet suburb, teaching terrorism studies at the local university. Things get shaken up however when he gets some new neighbors that move in across the street, who may or may not be who they pretend to be. Wheels start spinning, their wits go into conflict mode, and then feelings of doubt and obsession causes him to wonder if it’s all in his head. Another movie where you begin to wonder if it’s all in your head too. But don’t think you know the whole story. Because chances are that you won’t until it’s too late. 🙂

“10 Cloverfireld Lane”

Many people ran out to see the original, found footage, monster movie, “Cloverfield” when it was first released…but the studio sort of slid this one under the radar when it came out, and it actually happened to be really damn good! Another one that everybody needs to see at least once with your friends. And you don’t have to watch the original “Cloverfield”, as the two aren’t really related at all.

When a young lady is traveling on the highway late one night to get out of town and take a break from it all, she finds herself in a bad accident and blacks out…only to wake chained to a bed in someone’s basement hours later. Her gracious (and often unstable) host tells her that she’s not allowed to leave. Apparently, there has been some sort of giant attack or invasion out there, and the air is too toxic to breathe. Crazy conspiracy theories sprout up to explain everything no matter what questions she asks, and with someone else who’s also being held captive down in this bunker with them, there’s a struggle to figure out what to believe and what not to believe. Pay attention to this one while watching. You’re probably going to flip back and fort yourselves a few times…and that makes it all so much fun, doesn’t?
