This being July, when the US celebrates its independence every year…I wanted to take a brief moment to speak out about something that I truly believe in. Not for political reason, or to push some sort of sinister agenda…but as a human being who cares about other human beings, and is disgusted by the way we treat each other on a scale this big.

Enough is enough.

I’m saying it here and now. And if you disagree, you’re more than entitled to your opinion. But I truly feel that current events in a country that I spent my entire life being so proud of…have brought me and a majority of others to feelings of shame. Yes…shame. And I don’t know what to do about it. I have no idea how to fix it, or any hope that it even can be fixed at this point. Because there is a ‘cult’ in America that can’t be denied anymore. And we’re stuck with it.

But I am reminded of a popular quote when I think about the people who tolerate this kind of lunacy without question…

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me” -Pastor Martin Niemoller

Just recently, during an interview, the President of the United States was asked about the homeless problem. People who are down on their luck. Many of them, veterans who went to war and fought for the very freedoms that we enjoy in this country right now. And they were referred to as ‘filth’. Filth. And the President said, and I quote…

“We have to take these people…and do something. We have to do something.”

I’m not sure that people realize how chilling this statement really is. We have to take these people…and do something. Not do something FOR them. Not do something to HELP them or better their situation. But to…simply…”Do something.” As if to get them out of the way, somehow.

I don’t think I’ve ever been more horrified by a public statement from someone who has the power to implement a ‘final solution’ and command an army of people ‘following orders’ in my entire life. That chilled me to the bone. And if you think I’m taking the statement out of context, please feel free to watch the entire interview online. It’s not just a matter of me being biased or oversensitive. This is exactly what he said, and the context is well in place for anyone who wants to look it up.

Over the years, I’ve made some really great friends online from all over the world. I’ve even met some of them in person, and had them stay in my home. But talking to some of those friends now, I get the feeling that they view America in a way that doesn’t represent a majority of us at all. They assume that what’s going on right now is a shared hysteria in our culture as a whole, and I guarantee you that NOTHING could be further from the truth.

To the people overseas and in other countries…you may not be able to see our protests. Our pain. Our anger. Maybe it doesn’t get broadcast to you, wherever you are. But I beg you…please don’t let the loudmouths, the control freaks, the spin doctors, and the die hard fanatics, represent the rest of us as a country, just because they’re willing to lie and cry and out scream those of us with level heads and a sense of human decency. Please stop thinking that we don’t see the dysfunction in all of this, because we do. It’s insulting to think that we can’t see this sick game for what it is. We’re not all like this. 🙁

There are NOT ‘very fine’ people on both sides of this argument. Slavery and the Holocaust are recognized as some of the worst human atrocities ever committed by mankind. And people who are holding on to, or are trying to revive, that mentality in this day and age are well aware of that fact. So this isn’t a ‘sign of the times’ argument about the days of old when society didn’t know any better. We’re talking about the here and now. And if this is who you keep company with on your weekends…?

Then you’ve probably already stopped reading this article. In which case, I will gladly return you to your isolated bubble where your ideas of hatred and prejudice will be safe and secure and will help you sleep at night.

But…if you are one of those people…it’s not my place to judge you. I have nothing to gain from it. Believe me. But these same people that you’re supporting now WILL come for you too one day! That quote above couldn’t be more true. It doesn’t matter who you are, how much money you have, who you love, or what you look like…the people who are pushing this negative energy out into the rest of the world will come knocking on your door one day, and then it will be too late to fight back. Finding a resolution to the world’s problems is not their mission. Perpetuating HATRED and misery is their mission. Nothing else. If they could ‘snap’ everybody they hated out of existence right now…do you really think they’d be satisfied? They’ll just go looking for the next target. They’re still angry, because the hatred exists within them. It was never about the others. Bigotry and unfair treatment is for people who honestly believe that they’re never going to be on the other side of that argument. They truly think that they’re never going to have to face what other people go through when it comes to being unfairly treated by the rest of the world. Well…be patient. Your time is coming.

Why would they hate YOU? You’re normal, right? Only time will tell, won’t it? Why would they hate the LAST group of people they made into scapegoats? Does it matter? Hatred is the fuel. Prejudice is the catalyst to violent actions. That’s what they’re searching for. What happens when they have no one else to swing at?

There was a time when they used to fat shame people. Then, you might be slim, but you didn’t have six pack abs. Then…you both had six pack abs, but now there’s something called ‘hip dip’…where people make fun of your very BONE STRUCTURE for not being what it should be. Please understand…these people won’t ever be satisfied. They can’t be. They’re not looking to solve a ‘problem’ with the rest of the world. They’re looking to create problems in an attempt to shove your face in the dirt while they try to find reasons to feel better about themselves. They’re pathologically addicted to the practice of it. And they don’t care who suffers or who they hurt because of it.

You may think that you’re ‘normal’, and therefore safe…but you’re not. They will cut down one group after another for a few brief moments of artificial self love…and when the time comes…it’ll be your turn. So don’t watch your TV screens and think that this is some far away problem that you’ll never have to deal with. It isn’t.

Ask yourself…what kind of help will you be looking for when it’s your turn to be persecuted like this?

This isn’t a political statement. It’s a cry for help for my own humanity, and for the humanity of every pair of eyes who is reading this right now. For our global community, PLEASE understand that we are watching. We KNOW what’s going on. We know about the homophobia, the religious backlash, the outrageous gun violence, the poverty, the concentration camps being set up on our Southern borders (Funny…nobody worries about immigrants from Canada. Maybe we should make Justin Bieber an ambassador), the Islamophobia, the sexual assault of children, the rampant sexism, the massive pollution, the corporate greed, the violation of the land and Native American resources…we know. And we are just as utterly disgusted as you are. But justice is coming. Karma never loses an address. And even though some act as if speaking up for your beliefs is seen as some kind of blasphemy against your country, your military, your home…it isn’t. Don’t you DARE call us bleeding heart this, and snowflake that. Ungrateful. Despicable. Verbally assaulted by people who give NOTHING to society. Who cheat on their taxes, corrupt family values, sex traffic children, steal money from hard working people who can barely afford to get by, never feel a moment’s discrimination, and use their wealth to buy they way out of prison sentences that would devastate most American families who have to get up every morning and actually work for a living instead of sitting at the side of a lake on a random Tuesday, collecting interest on mommy and daddy’s fortune.

And they have the audacity to complain?

It’s the empty chamber that makes the loudest noise. And a lot of empty people have been regurgitating the same brainwashed garbage over and over again until the ‘fairy tale’ has become a reality to people who have given up hope on ever making a change. DON’T let that happen! Don’t remain silent and let people tell you that you’re a bad person for not blindly following the lead of something that you KNOW is wrong! You KNOW it!!! What are you doing? Why are you accepting this? Why do we tolerate it? How are these people not in JAIL?

If it were YOU…wouldn’t YOU be in jail?

People are being gunned down in the streets. Children are being abused. Countries are being bombed, and innocent civilians are being caught in the crossfire. Corruption is at an all time high. Dictators are rising to power all over the world. Gay people are being bashed, and transgender teens are being driven to suicide. Drugs are being legally pushed onto people who don’t need them, and the doctors don’t shed a tear when they die from the addiction. And I KNOW that it’s easy for all of us to shrug our shoulders and say, “Well, the world is fucked up, I guess.” But it doesn’t have to BE that way! It really doesn’t!

Love and pride means standing up for what you believe in. Not just siding with whoever looks like a winning ‘bet’ at the time. Things can be better. Not just for you, but for everybody. It’s time. It’s time to grow up. To admit our mistakes and acknowledge our accomplishments. We can be so much better than this, I mean…what are we waiting for? Somebody ELSE to do it? We need to be brutally honest about this in order to create change. This illusion of ours is no longer an adequate excuse for the horrors we turn a blind eye to.

I’m not asking you guys to save the world. I’m just asking you to be the best person that YOU can be. You, alone. And stop allowing these horrible practices to slide by you without triggering a certain level of disgust. Not just in the US, but everywhere. Empathy is an evolutionary trait. It has allowed us to evolve as a species. It’s the simple ability of asking ourselves, “What if it was ME?” Or MY friends. Or MY family members. Once you lose the ability to do that…what else is there? You’ve traveled down the path of apathy and heartlessness…and I don’t know how to turn you back from that, because I’ve never been there.

I’m taking this opportunity to say to the rest of the world, and to the many people that I’ve discussed these topics with from other countries…that America is listening. We are not blind to what is happening here. And, hopefully, we can repair the damage that has been done someday. Hope is all we have. Stand up. Speak out. And keep your heart in tact…no matter what. Because that’s what they’ll attack first.

Yes…we see it too…

And this is the world that I live in everyday…

I was once told that two thirds of the inhabitants of Hell consist of enablers and accomplices. I think I understand that now more than ever. And the saying fits. Good luck to you all. It’s not too late for us to dig ourselves out of this hole. Find your truth, whatever that may be, and stick with it. Just own up to it when the time comes for the truth to come to light. Because it, inevitably, will. And when it does…ask yourself if you’ll be ashamed of the choices you made…when that unfmiliar knock comes rapping at your chamber door.

Happy 4th of July, America. I love you. And, hopefully…we have many more birthdays coming in the future…

That being said…I’d like to leave you all with one of the greatest, most inspiring, speeches of all time. Even if you’ve heard it before, listen to it again right now. And let the message settle in. This is what the world needs right now. Don’t be led astray. Please? None of us can do this alone.

Love and peace, always. – Comicality
