A Country Summer Song

I dream and sing
a country summer song
as the cold and snow keep me in
of bare feet and pie a la mode
picnics in the park and fireflies after dark
and stellar summer days
Sitting on a front porch swing
on the porch of an old farmhouse
or laying in a hammock between
shady oak trees
who’s to say
Multi-colored rainbows in a clear blue sky
after a heavy summer rain
a country line dance in an old barn
down a country lane
Camping near a river teeming with fish
to be caught and released
And I dream and sing
a country summer song
as the cold and snow keep me in

Lazy Little Stream

Sitting on the banks
of a lazy little stream
O, how I wish
it wasn’t a dream
I wish is was
as real as rain
then life wouldn’t be
such a strain
Lazy little stream
on a lazy summer’s day
I’ll sing of you some winter’s day
Lazy little stream
teeming with fish
ready to be caught and be released

Over America

One day as I flew
over America again
I wondered what was going down
down there in America again
Was it just another day, another dollar
for the blue and white collar
Were companies merging and emerging
couples engaging and marrying
cheating and lying
separating and divorcing
Were the old dying
and were the newborn crying
Were kids and teens ditching
middle and senior highs
or still learning online
Were farms and houses being foreclosed upon
big box stores going out of business
and others being looted and set ablaze
Were there storms in the east
and fires in the west
and riots in the north and in the south
or is it just another day in America again
