A New American Song

As I look out my window I see
in the terminal
families and friends waving
Hello to those arriving
and goodbye to those departing
in planes of every size nearby
We taxi to the runway’s end
our flight shortly to begin
Now the engines are roaring
as we roll down the runway
faster and faster
the ground slipping away
and we are now airborne and I sing
A new American song
new American song
new American song
And I see America again
all I see both far and wide
and I sing with pride
A new American song
new American song
new American song

From The Heart and From The Heartland

America so vast and so wide
full with patriots and protesters
all waving their flags with pride
and it’s America’s birthday again
Everyone doing it up and going all out
for the Fourth of July again
From the heart and from the heartland
a friendly nod or wink
and bump of the fist or elbow
and you know
you’re in America’s heartland again
Lakes and rivers
hills and valleys
plains and prairies
and mountains galore
and I sing with love
from the heart and from the heartland

Our Love

Our love began
as but a babbling brook
that became a lazy little stream
the stream became a mighty river
with rapids and rocks along the way
to a waterfall so tall
we two carried our boat down the side of
to a lake so serene we floated upon for a while
The lake became a delta
and the delta became a gulf
and the gulf became an ocean
upon which we two now sail as one
to the bitter lands end
until death us do part
And we meet again on that far off distant shore
and we begin our journey of love once more
and for all eternity
