To say that 2020 came as a huge surprise to all of us would be a HUGE understatement! It caught us all off guard, and there have been some frustrating aspects of the lives that we led this year. But it doesn’t mean that it didn’t have its funny moments and some good times too. I can’t help but to think that I’m going to, one day, look back at this moment in world history and just shake my head, like, “WTF was wrong with life back then?” Hehehe!

Anyway, that being said…being safely tucked away inside for the past nine months hasn’t really been all that bad. If anything, I got a lot more done than I could have if I was running around town all day looking for mischief to get into. Saved a lot of money too by not spending it on things that I now realize I didn’t really need all that bad to begin with. And while I know that the world will get its gears rolling again in the future (hopefully the NEAR future), I’m not going to miss staying up late, sleeping in late, and many fun instances of day drinking where the giggles are non-stop and fast food is just around the corner from the house. If I could live like this by choice…you know, instead of trying to avoid a potentially lethal virus and the many people who seem to love spreading it to everyone they come into contact with…then this would be Heaven! I wonder if this is what it feels like to be super rich, where I could just exist in this totally euphoric state of luxury and comfort and live this way all the time!

However…one of the things that I’ve been using as a form of almost daily exercise, has been my PSVR! And the games have gotten to be more engaging and energetic than ever…which is a good thing! I love it! But be careful…because that kind of activity for extended periods of time WILL leave you sore and stiff as HELL the next day! LOL! Let’s just say that I’v taken many a long hot shower, and should probably buy stock in sports cream at this point! Hehehe, BUT…I’m probably in better shape now than I have been in quite a while, and it’s become a part of my weekly routine. Not only did it keep me from gaining weight, but I actually lost a few pounds! Even my doctor told me, “Whatever you’re doing…keep doing it!” Alright, Doc! Video games and alcohol! I’ll do that!

The best part of VR is that it just brings out the kid in everybody! It’s just as entertaining to watch somebody else play as it is to play yourself. Especially when you’re dealing with young kids who have never seen anything like it before…as well as older folks, who have also never seen anything like it before either! What can I say? I get enjoyment out of their enjoyment! It just makes me happy! 🙂

How awful is it to just be walking along, minding your own business, and all of a sudden…you’ve got an entire army of angry villagers attacking you with pitchforks and torches and explosives? I mean, what the HELL? Leave me alone! Hehehe! Oh…I should probably mention that you’re a fifty foot tall monstrous giant, and they’re all scared to death of you. But it’s not like you came to destroy their humble little village. You’re a gentle giant, you know? Still…that doesn’t mean a whole lot when you’ve got razor sharp weapons being tossed at your head. So I guess you have to do things the hard way, won’t you?
“Good Goliath” is a game where you simply play a misunderstood giant who is forced to defend yourself from scared villagers by ducking and dodging the many things that they’re throwing at you, occasionally catching them in your hands and throwing it back at them to clear one level after another. You’ll cause a lot of damage, kill a lot of people, and eventually move up to battling witches demons, and other giant monsters along the way! A very good time, and a decent work out once you get to the higher levels. Whew…need to catch my breath now! Stupid villagers.

I know what you’re thinking! Why on Earth would somebody take a dark zombie shooter and call it ‘Pancake House’? And my answer to you is…”Hell, I don’t know! Shut up and play!” Hehehe! In this game, you’re basically just trying to survive and find your way out of a zombie apocalypse all by yourself. You have a variety of weapons to find and use to the best of your ability on your journey, but won’t be easy. These things come at you like ten or twenty monsters at a time, and the only thing that’s going to save you is the unique ability to put up and strategically place small barriers to keep them at bay for a minute or two. They won’t last long, as the zombies begin to swipe and break them down the second they get close enough to do so…but if you just need to hold them back long enough to reload your weapon, or perhaps thin out the horde approaching you from the right while stalling the horde on the left…then they will certainly come in handy.
“Pancake House” isn’t the most complex game in the world, but if you’re looking for some fun, or just want to relieve some of your daily stress by unloading an entire clip’s worth of ammunition into an army of zombies, demons, and chainsaw wielding maniacs, for a while…then this is your game! Just remember…this is VR! And they will creep up on you and get right in your FACE when things get tense! So…you know…diapers optional! 😛

DEFINITELY had a lot of fun with this one since it dropped a few months ago! Hehehe! There’s just something satisfying about dual wielding a pair of Katana blades and slicing well trained ninjas in half with them! I mean…how often do you get to say that to somebody?
What starts off pretty simple, hardly much more than an advanced tutorial of how to fight, block, and deflect projectiles, very quickly turns into a heated battle of blood and carnage as you find yourself being attacked on all sides at once! To the point where you actually learn to block behind you without even looking and striking out in front of you. (Which is a VERY cool feeling, by the way!) Swords and ninja stars, claws and Samurai, and enemies popping out of the shadows at every turn. Be sure to keep your eyes open, and your weapons ready. Learn a few extra tricks as you advance in your skills, and become the deadly master assassin that you were always meant to be!

If there was one game this year that deserved to be on the top ten list of every VR gamer on the planet in 2020…it’s “Walking Dead: Saints And Sinners”! Hehehe, you end up having to do some really DARK shit in this game, but it’s the only way to survive what’s going on out there. So if you ever wondered what kind of person you would become if faced with such a dire situation such as a zombie apocalypse? This is the adventure you’ve been looking for.
Mostly based on the popular TV show and comic book series, you will play a brand new character that is trying to find his way towards a virtual paradise of weapons and supplies, all while avoiding an armada of the living dead, as well as other humans who have gone completely into a deadly ‘survival mode’ of their very own. And that means you need to be careful who you trust, and who you can’t. Who you should leave behind, and who you may need to help in order to gain valuable information and tools to progress further in the game. And let me tell you right now…all of your choices won’t be easy ones. So watch your back out there!
An extremely cool game that is immaculately detailed in its design. You really do feel like you’re right there in the midst of it all. And when you kill a zombie…you REALLY feel like you’re killing one! You stab it in the head with a screwdriver…and that thing gets ‘stuck’ in there for a second or two! You have to work to pull it back out again. Grab an ax, a broken shard of metal, a knife…pick up clues and maps to guide you on your way…go on supply runs to keep yourself fed and get medicine and bandages for your wounds…yeah, you’re going to have plenty to do. Trust me.
This one deserves to be much higher up on my list, but…while I’ve never had motion sickness a day in my life before, this is one of very few games that triggers a bit of a queasy feeling for me when moving around. I don’t know why. But I can only play this for about fifteen or twenty minutes at a time before I need a ‘dizzy break’. But, if that doesn’t affect you, then definitely pick this one up. It’s a must have!

Ever since I saw Star Wars for the very first time as a tiny tot…the idea of flying an X-Wing or a Tie Fighter was a huge fantasy that only existed in my head! I mean, there have been video games about it before, arcade games, and you could use your imagination when playing with your toys or whatever…but it wasn’t until a couple of WEEKS ago that I found myself in VR…actually sitting INSIDE the cockpit of one! That is a total mind freak like you wouldn’t believe! I don’t know what it is, but every time I’m expecting not to be impressed with the whole immersion gimmick anymore, this game comes along and hits me right in the feels! With “Star Wars: Squadrons”, you get to pilot all of the fighter ships that you’ve always dreamed about, first hand. You are actually IN the ship! You feel the movement, the speed, the control…it’s pretty crazy!
Playing from both sides of the story, as a pilot for the rebellion as well as the evil Empire, you’ll be able to dogfight, barrel roll, weave in and out of asteroid fields and space debris…you’ll get to do it all. And once you’ve finished your training and gotten through the story…you’ll be able to get online and play with your friends in a five-on-five assault against one another. It’s everything that a dedicated Star Wars could ever hope for. One quick note, however…it’s SUPER fun to play in VR, but if you have any issues with motion sickness…ummmm, bring a bucket! LOL! Because you will speeding, swooping, diving, rolling around in circles, and performing a series of aerial combat maneuvers…in space! Just keep that in mind. BUT…you can also play this one on your regular TV as well, so it’s still an awesome one to put in your Christmas stocking! Come home safe, soldier!

Forever a Marvel fan, it’s extremely fun to see an actual licensed game from the movie franchise turned into an exciting VR game with all of the bells and whistles that one would expect from such an ambitious project. They didn’t spare on any of the details either. From the Iron Man suit itself, to the sound effects from the movies, all the way down to Tony Stark’s snarky sense of humor! The controls take a little getting used to at first, as they work exactly the way they would for the suit. You have jets on your feet and on each one of your hands, so once you figure out how to really navigate and shoot…the fun begins.
The game features one of Iron Man’s classic villains, ‘Ghost’ (However, she only shows up in the “Ant Man And The Wasp” feature on the big screen), who is punishing Stark for his involvement in some rather shady arms deals around the world…and is looking to take him out, once and for all. With some much need help and information from the ever loyal ‘Friday’, and a few special appearance from characters like Nick Fury, you’ll get to see what it’s like to live and fight as an Avenger! They did an AMAZING job on this game, as well as the previously released, “Spider-Man: Far From Home”, demo, and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

This is…by FAR…one of the funniest games that I think I’ve ever played in my entire life! Hahaha, and I truly mean that! What the hell was going on in the studios when they were putting this together? Because this reaches a level of insanity that rivals anything that you can normally find in a video game! Made alongside the creators of the show, “Rick And Morty”, the overall ridiculous nature of this game will have you in tears by the time you get about five minutes into it. Honestly, I had to keep something close by to raise my VR helmet to wipe my eyes just in case. To the point where anybody listening to me laughing from another room would come in like, “What the hell are you playing?” Seriously, BEST game ever to get you laughing!
This is actually a 3D platform game, but you’d be surprised how well executed it is in VR. Not to mention the fact that the writers must have created just limitless hours worth of content for this, because if you just stand still for a minute, the characters that you come across will just keep talking. Not with the usual repetitive dialogue either. You could, honestly, just sit there and have a character yell at you to get moving for five minutes straight and laugh yourself silly the entire time. In fact, I see that as one of my favorite perks of the game. They say the weirdest damn things EVER, and you can just sort of sit there and enjoy the show for a while if you want to. Even the opening tutorial is hilarious! I could try to explain the story to you…but, trust me…it won’t make sense! Hehehe, just play, laugh, and enjoy! It’s got a monster, and it stole your dogs and put them in his eye sockets, and Trover has to help you save your pets and the rest of the universe, and there’s space, and death, and….yeah. Just play! You’ll enjoy this one a lot! NOT for kids, by the way! Unh unh, no way! Hehehe!

The first time I played this game, I got pretty addicted to it, ad kept trying to see how much further I could get as the difficulty of passing each level kept getting increasingly difficult. And BOY, did I pay for it afterwards! My right shoulder was stiff and sore for a week and a half! Hehehe, so remember your limitations, even when you’re having a ton of fun.
What makes this game so unique from the others on this list is the fact that you actually play more of a ‘supporting’ character than the guys on the front line. When your small band of fighters draw their swords and go in to fight off your enemies, attempting to reach their goal by cutting a path through the armed guards rushing in from all sides…it’s up to you to keep them safe. As one of their faithful archers, you use your bow and arrow to aim and pick off all of the attackers that are trying to do them home. They can hold their own against a FEW enemies, but it’s your job to make sure that they don’t get overwhelmed. And watch your aim…because you don’t want to end up accidentally hit your own men, even while they’re trading sword strikes with a huge cluster of enemies all at once. But it is sooooo satisfying to get your aim just right and fire an arrow into the head of a guard right over your teammate’s shoulder! Hehehe!
The physicality of the game will definitely cause you to break a sweat when things get tense. You have to hold up your bow with one hand, and physically pull back the drawstring, and release. And then, to get another arrow, you have to reach back over your shoulder and grab another one. And sometimes, you have to do all of this VERY quickly! So…shoot! Reach! Reload! Shoot! Reach! Reload! And the enemies will get harder, faster, and some will be covered by armor to the point where only a direct shot to neck will work! Things can get intense, but this one is infinitely entertaining! As Santa to send you one this year!

I really had a difficult time trying to pick my absolute favorite game this year! The top two were pretty much a coin toss, as they’re my very first choice of games to play at the moment, and they’ve never lost a hint of their replay value since I’ve had them! So, for number two…”Vader Immortal”!
Let me just say that the first time you have to actually stand toe to toe with friggin’ Darth Vader in VR…it is a TERRIFYING experience! Hahaha! The sheer size of him is intimidating as hell! Just having him calmly threaten you face to face is enough to nearly make you wet yourself! The story of Vader Immortal is short, existing in three parts that take place not long after “Revenge Of The Sith” and before “Rogue One”, where you play a force sensitive smuggler who happens to have a link to a powerful weapon that Vader needs access to. And this will take you on an adventure that you almost wish could be a movie all its own. A bit of mysticism, Star Wars lore, a sassy robot companion…and the ‘force’.
Ohhhhh…the ‘force’! Once I learned how to use the force, I realized that I would have gone to the dark side immediately in the Star Wars universe! LOL! Being able to block lasers with a light saber, moving objects, reaching out to choke the living shit out of storm troopers and slam them up against the wall…? Yeah, I enjoyed that WAY too much!
And once the story is over, the REAL fun comes into play with the light saber dojo levels! Most fun you can possibly have! I keep going back to play it over and over again! Use the force, throw your light saber and call it back to your hand, battle it out with saber wielding droids, deflect storm trooper fire back at them…and then use the force to call their pistol to your hand before it hits the ground. And you can earn other classic sabers as well. (Luke’s, Vader’s, Obi Wan’s, Darth Maul’s, Kylo Ren’s, Mace Windu’s, and more!) So bring out your darkest instincts, grab your jedi weapon, and show the galaxy why they should fear you!

And now…for my number ONE game of 2020! The one that I absolutely cannot stop playing, nor can the other members of my family! That’s “Pistol Whip”! So what is it like? Imagine if you were moving through a late night dance club in the movie “Tron”…but you have be both John Wick and ‘Neo’ from “The Matrix”…all at the same time! That’s just scratching the surface of what this game does to you when you’re playing it. It’s perfection! Fun to play, awesome soundtrack, incredible kill shots, and enough to keep you moving around until your too exhausted to engage anymore. Expect to take a shower afterward! You’ll need one! Hehehe!
As you glide from level to level, you’ll being firing at never ending hordes of digital enemies…and they will most definitely be firing back at you! So when you see the bullets coming your way…lean, duck, and dodge, to avoid taking damage. The game will only allow you two hit before it’s ‘game over’, so stay on your toes. Luckily, the more people that you kill, the faster you can build your shield back up, affording you one extra hit before you’re forced to build it back up again. As the pounding music sends tremors through you from head to toe, you’ll also be ducking under low bridges, leaning left and right to avoid walls, and shooting targets in front of you, on both sides, above you, and below! And could there possibly be any more added bonuses to this game? YES!!! If you really want to rack up a high score…you kill enemies in time with the beat of the music! Hehehe, that’s right! Deliver your shots in time with the rhythm, and you’ll be a total badass at this game!
As much as I truly, TRULY, love “Vader Immortal”…”Pistol Whip” took the cake for me in 2020! So, if you get a VR system during the holidays, you should seriously consider making this one of your first games to make a grab for!
