Growing up as a huge Marvel fan, and finally seeing almost everything that I could have ever dreamed actually being treated seriously and being brought to the big screen over the past decade or so has been an incredibly awesome experience for me! Characters that I never even thought would be noticed by the most die hard comic book fans are now getting their time to shine, and there’s only more to come in the future.
That being said, I have to admit that I was sort of holding my breath when the Disney+ streaming service was going to be making a collection of mini-series to be watched at home on your TV screens. I had my doubts at first when I heard the announcement. Like…this could go REALLY right…or REALLY wrong! However, when the first trailer came out for the Star Wars themed show, “The Mandalorian”…that eased a lot of my fears and doubts immediately! I was like, “Whoah! This looks like an actual MOVIE!!!”
Disney spared no expense, whatsoever…and when it came time for Marvel to step up to the plate with their first show, “Wandavision”…I was more than impressed! I was overwhelmed in fact! Holy shit…they really pulled that storyline off! And that storyline is DARK! I mean…extremely dark!
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed this series, and how proud I am of the writers, actors, filmmakers, that were able to put a full blown “Avengers” level cinematic experience to my TV screen! Bravo! And so far, every single series that they’ve had ever since has been of equal quality, furthering the whole saga and universe building finesse that I’ve come to expect from the very best of the movies the MCU has had to offer.
And now? Hehehe, I see what you’re doing Marvel! I see the pieces that you’re putting together for the future! And I love it!
Especially with their first outing…the “Wandavision” series! A story about grief, trauma, denial, death, redemption…it is definitely something to see. Then…just when I thought I couldn’t love that show any more than I already did, it was like Marvel said, “Really? Well let’s throw a couple of cute boys in there for you too! And set up some of the coolest future events in the Marvel Universe for a later date! How about that?”
THANKS, MARVEL!!! Hehehe! 😛
Taken from a very popular comic book tale called “House Of M”, Disney+ actually went a bit further in depth to the actual story than I expected them to. Because, in the comics, if you ever get a chance to read them…a lot of people actually died, had their powers stolen from them, or were simply wiped out of existence. Like…a LOT! Wanda basically loses her everlovin’ MIND…which is not a good thing when you have the ability to warp reality itself to fit whatever you want to see and whatever you want to believe about the world in general. Seems timely in this political climate, doesn’t it? Just saying…
But during her delusion, the rest of the entire Marvel Universe gets caught up in all of this, and she basically everybody everything that they ever wanted in life. They have families now and are living in a dream world that is a total paradise. But there is one mutant who is able to wake them up out of the illusion, and every hero and villain is forced to see what reality really looks like for, what seems like, the first time. It’s made clear that Wanda has to be stopped, but…do they want to give up their paradise for a harsh reality that is full of pain and loss? It’s truly a twisted story about loss, and wondering if you have the strength to do what’s right over what just feels ‘comfortable’. Definitely give it a read if you can!
That being said, the “Wandavision” series actually introduces us to the twins for the very first time! Young Billy and Tommy have now become a part of the MCU (‘Wiccan’ and ‘Speed’)! Apparently spawned out of ‘magic’ itself, these two eventually become some of the most powerful beings on Earth, and their journey starts here.
Played by young actors, Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne, another whole part of the MCU is being built up to a point where it could easily go on forever at this point. And why not? They’ll always get my money! LOL! Give me more!
Here are both of the actors reacting to the teaser trailer for “Wandavision” for the very first time! I mean, how cool would it be to be a kid and get a role as a well known Marvel character in a big budget series? When you’re an actor, you often to get to see the edits or the special effects or have any music or anything until the actual release of the movie. So this is all new to them. LOL! They’re so excited! I mean…wouldn’t you be?
Now, in the original story…the children are actually spawns from the soul of Mephisto (Marvel’s version of the actual devil)…but if you’re expecting to see that in the MCU? Mmmmm…nope! That won’t happen. So stop with the ‘Mephisto’ theories! LOL! Seriously. It can’t happen. Unfortunately, one of the largest box office audiences on Earth comes from China…and they have some pretty strict rules when it comes to releasing a movie over there. And China will NOT approve having the devil in a movie or TV series, apparently. Skulls? NOPE! Even with the release of “Black Widow”, Taskmaster’s mask had to be changed from a skull to…sort of a skull? Otherwise…NOPE! China and Tibet? NOPE! So, that’s why in “Doctor Strange”, instead of having the Ancient One as an elder Tibetan monk, we got…Tilda Swinton. (But that’s ok, because she was awesome!) So the censorship in China takes a lot of work to get around. They won’t even play Brad Pitt movies there because he made “Seven Years In Tibet” years ago. So…sorry. No Mephisto. Not now. Probably not ever.
Other movies that are completely banned in China due to their censorship laws…
“Alice In Wonderland”, “Frankenstein”, “Back To The Future”, “The Ten Commandments”, “Kundun”, “Brokeback Mountain”, “The Da Vinci Code”, “V For Vendetta”, “The Dark Knight”, “Mad Max: Fury Road”, “Deadpool”, “Call Me By Your Name”, and “Joker”. So…sorry movie buffs and comic book fans. Take it up with China. No studio is going to pass up hundreds of millions of dollars in box office revenue on story accuracy. ::Shrugs::
Anyway, both of the twins do eventually ‘vanish’…but both get reincarnated later on as two other boys with very different stories. But they eventually find each other again, and their mom (Wanda aka Scarlet Witch), and their father (Vision), and not only become a family again, but the boys actually become Avengers themselves. A new generation, put together as a part of the ‘Avengers: Failsafe’ program…just in case something happened to break up the original team…ummm…again. Hehehe!
Tommy (aka Speed) was locked away in a mutant detention center after practically vaporizing his high school. Making him a dangerous threat in the eyes of society. And Billy (aka Wiccan) ends up being bullied relentlessly because of his sexuality.
Yes, Billy is gay.
And his mother’s powers of magic and warping reality are ignited when he tries to defend himself one day, nearly killing the boy who was pushing him around. It wasn’t until later on that both boys ru into one another, and it was Billy’s boyfriend who recognizes the similarities between the two. Saying that they could be twins.
Thus…the saga of Wiccan and Speed was born!
Now, I could go into the whole thing about Scarlet Witch and her twin brother, Quicksilver, and them being Magneto’s children from the X-Men, and a whole bunch of comic book soap opera shit…but I’m trying to stay focused here! Hehehe, so let’s not go down that rabbit hole, shall we?
I told you guys…it was comic books that taught me how to write complex stories and overlapping, intertwining, plots, etcetera! This is where all of that comes from!
As for both of the young actors playing these beloved characters on the show, I think they did a great job, and I’d love to see them come back to reprise their roles in the future if possible.(If they’re old enough by then.)
Both Jett Klyne and Julian Hilliard get to do a bit of action, some drama, some comedy…and they’re just too adorable for words during their parts in the series. They’re simply fun to watch!
Jett Klyne (Tommy/Speed) actually began his career very young as a Gerber Baby model, believe it or not. Born in Penticton, British Columbia, Jett quickly moved on to doing commercials, and by the age of 4 was a part of the movie, “The Boy”. (I knew that creepy ass doll looked familiar!
A fan of BMX racing, hockey, baseball, and…boxing? Jett seems to be as lively and charismatic off screen as he is onscreen. Something that the industry has taken notice of, and it’s made him one of the hottest boy actors in Vancouver.
“Something people ask me a lot is, ‘What do I like about acting’? and it’s just something I like to do. It’s not really like a job for me.” Jett says. And when asked which actors he would like to work with, he was quick to say that if he could work with any actor it would be Robert Downey Jr., and maybe one day play Iron Man! And his favorite scene while filming “Wandavision”? “The Halloween one where I got to silly string everyone! That was the best!”
With a growing fanbase and more roles coming his way, including the new thriller, “13 Steps”, starring Jett, Jackie Cruz, and Raoul Max Trujillo…we’re sure to be hearing more from him in the near future!
His onscreen twin, Julian Hilliard, (Billy/Wiccan) has also been enjoying the spotlight lately! And not just from “Wandavision”, but from some of his other many projects that have been impressing audiences over the past few years. Born in Dallas, Texas, Julian’s mother is an actress and his father is a film producer. He got his first taste of the acting bug very young when he was cast in his first commercial. And since then, he’s been building quite the resume. One that would make most actors twice his age jealous. Including acting alongside Nicholas Cage in the movie, “Color Out Of Space”. He even won a young artist award for his role in the super creepy series, “The Haunting Of Hill House”, which has been a fan favorite among horror buffs.
When asked when he’ll be old enough to see any of his own movies, Julian said, “Probably in a few years, but Mom says I have to be 30!” Hehehe, ok then. “I love reading the ‘Goosebumps’ books and enjoy the movies too. Except, they’re not really that scary, they’re more adventure filled. My favorite scary movies are probably “A Quiet Place” and “The Birds”. ” Which are two classics, in my book. So it’s cool to hear that he’s on his way to being a horror buff of his own. While filming, Julian says, “I’ve been lucky to work with people who take the time to explain the process so that I’m prepared and not scared.” Well done!
SO…the big question is…will Marvel stick to the script and bring Billy and Tommy back to us to fight another day? To be honest, I’m almost one hundred percent certain of it! Which is awesome! If you’ve been watching closely, the Young Avengers team is already halfway built! With Antman’s daughter grown up, Hawkeye’s daughter, Isiah Bradley’s grandson, and that cute little cameo in “Avengers: Endgame” from Ty Simpkins from “Iron Man 3″…Wiccan and Speed would fit right in! So bring it on! I’m so ready!
Also…and it may just be a rumor…but it’s been said that both Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne were seen on the set of the “Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness” set! Now, that doesn’t mean that they’re in the movie. They may just have been given passes to watch them film and all. But, seeing as Wanda is a big part of that movie and her two youngsters just ‘happened’ to show up on set is a good sign. 🙂
The next “Doctor Strange” is supposed to be one of the darkest entries into the MCU to date, and I can’t wait to see that! Seeing as both Julian and Jett already have an intense and steady horror background…they’ll be PERFECT for that kind of movie!
