Born in America, but raised in London overseas, Denis Coleman has been steadily building himself quite the collection of hit songs and self-written expressions of his life over the past few years! Even the recent restrictions of the Covid-19 pandemic could really slow him down when it came to forging his career out of fire and brimstone.
If anything…I think it only made him work harder! And that’s the kind of artist that makes it to the top and sticks around long enough to be one of the all time greats. I can definitely appreciate that.
It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the idea that he started performing when he was only four years old! But, I guess that’s what kids do these days! Hahaha! I’m sure that he was amazing, though. If that was just a boyish taste of what we’re now getting as fans of his new music…then more power to him from developing it and evolving the way that he has. Because he has clearly come a long way from his internet pop, ‘Bieber-esque’ roots.
Those darn marketing execs and their stranglehold on an art that they just want to make money off of.
I think that Denis played his part in being sold to the masses as the newest teen pop artist at first, and he loses no points in my book for that. It’s a business and an industry that has a keen sense for what sells and what will make their artists as big and as famous as they possibly can be. I mean, it’s just a part of the game you play, you know?
And I can definitely say that Denis Coleman could have easily slipped into that role and made millions once he got that one big radio friendly hit that was designed and structured to get the young girls (and boys) screaming for him until their vocal chords gave out.
He had a great voice, he was SUPER cute, he was young…all of the dominoes were set up, and he had a clear path to instant stardom if he wanted to take it.
But you have to remember that Denis Coleman has always set out to be an artist in his own right, and not just a carbon copy of someone else. He has been writing his own music since he was only ten years old, and began catching the eye of big name talent scouts since he was twelve! He even won the Open Mic UK’s Songwriter Of The Year competition way back in 2017! Beating out hundreds of other songwriters from across the country to still be hailed as number one! That’s saying something!
Still…his early career hits, while wildly successful, were still rooted in that whole ‘cute boy teen pop’ genre. He’s really GOOD at it, but you could almost tell that it wasn’t really his flavor. You know?
“So…the song is called ‘Imperfect’, and the lyric is ‘perfectly imperfect’, and I thought that it was really important to just remind people that everyone is perfectly imperfect. I feel like, with social media today, and so much photoshop and airbrushing…people have a lot of pressure on them that they need to look and act and be perfect…and I think it’s important for us to remember that everyone is perfectly imperfect at the end of the day. And we need to embrace our differences.” Says Denis in an interview.
He really did want to send out a message of som sort for his fans to cling to and absorb through his ability to put his feelings into words. And a lot of artists can’t really do that. It’s a level of finesse that is more rare than you think it is. And I feel like this is where Denis Coleman began to find his own niche, and himself.
Even as a classical violinist (Not many people know that), and being featured in many media outlets like The Sun, CBBC’s Playlist, Shout Magazine, Newsround, and spending an extended tour with super popular groups across the UK…Denis found a way to really find his own voice in th music industry.
A prince of what many are calling ‘Pop/Punk’ music, Denis Coleman is now being embraced as a part of a movement that combines the fiesty excitement of boy pop with a bit of the edge and grunge appeal of, what sounds like early 90’s alternative rock! Which…I mean, if there’s a path back to the Pearl Jam, Nirvana, era of music…but mixed with sexy boys and deep lyrics about life and love all mixed in? I’m all for it! Let’s DO it!!! Hehehe!
Thank you, Denis! You’re a dream come true! And I hope everyone else can see the same talent and sparkle that I’m seeing in you right now! Go for it!
