You know…when I was growing, I think that one of the last adjectives that anyone would ever use to describe me would be ‘graceful’. Hehehe, honestly…even my own mother would just have to immediately step in and say, “Ummm, no. I know that I told you could grow up to be anything, hon..but graceful just isn’t wone of those things.” Thanks for the asterisk, Mom! Geez! I could have been a DANCER! LOL!
Luckily, there are cute young boys like Vasily Sobolev who can pic up my slack and serious lack of talent to be graceful enough for the both of us! And he seems to be doing exactly that! Not for fame, or for riches…it’s just because he loves to dance, and he worked hard to be one of the best boys to ever do it.
This actor and model is only fourteen years old, and he’s already making his biggest dreams come true…which I find absolutely fascinating! Good for you, Vasily! Claiming that he was only three years when he first saw ballet dancing, and instantly fell in love with it. From there, the Moscow born boy began officially practicing his craft when he was only eight. He began with a small group of other kids, but in just a few years, it seems that he easily surpassed them all. Mostly because he loved dancing so much, that it was pretty much all that he wanted to do, all the time. Nothing else!
I know the feeling, dude! It’s what these handcuffs are for at the edge of my keyboard! So trust me, like…I get it! Hehehe!
The teen says, “When I first began, I would watch ballet on TV and practice at home. I would lock myself in my room for hours because I was shy and didn’t want anybody to see me.” Vasily then added, “The boys at school and in our neighborhood would laugh at me, but I didn’t let it bother me. I knew that dancing isn’t only for girls. You have to be strong, tough, and coordinated to dance.” Very true. And don’t forget graceful! Hehehe! But I was always under the impression that it wasn’t really as big a deal for boys to take up ballet lessons in many places overseas as it is here in the States. I don’t know, some people just walk around mad all the time and have to look for somebody to take it out on.
Sucks to be them.
“I was always shy to go to ballet classes until one day my sister went. I went with her and they talked me into trying. Since then, I have practiced hard because I realized that ballet is my greatest passion in life.” Which is the perfect attitude to have if you really want to dive in and be a true champion at what you love. So Vasily loved ballet so much that he made it his mission to practice for hours and hours, night and day, every single day…to be the best. And it wasn’t just because he was really aiming to be recognized worldwide for it. He just wanted to enjoy himself, for the most part. And enjoy himself, he did!
Never really dancing for medals or trophies or submitting himself to the crushing pressure of professionally competing, Sobolev says that his only real big dream was to be accepted and dance for the Vaganova Academy Of Russian Ballet…a pretty big challenge, and a feat that he achieved not too long ago. And now he is overjoyed to say that he has danced in over ten performances at in the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. Congrats!
